Help with Madmakker
Here are the answers to the things people write in about most often. If your question is not here, write to kontakt@nixio.dk. There is a human at the other end, and it is the same one who wrote the app. Bear in mind that the app's own interface is in Danish, so the buttons named below appear in Danish on your phone.
Getting started
How do I make my first meal plan?
Open the app and enter the number of adults and children along with an approximate weekly budget. Then tap the refresh icon at the top of the weekly plan, and the whole week's lunches and dinners are laid out. You do not need to create anything or log in.
Can I keep some days and change the rest?
Yes. Lock the days you like using the padlock next to the day. The next time you ask for a new plan they stay put, and only the rest is replaced. A single meal can also be changed on its own with the refresh button on the meal itself.
I am vegetarian, or I cannot tolerate gluten. Can the app handle that?
Yes. In the settings you choose a diet (everything, vegetarian, vegan or mostly animal-based), and you can switch off gluten, lactose and fish. The planner then picks only meals that fit. A single meal you never want to see again can also be removed permanently with »vis aldrig igen«, meaning »never show again«.
How do I make the list follow my shop?
In the settings under »Butik layout«, meaning shop layout, you move the categories up and down until the order matches your route through the shop. The shopping list uses that order every time from then on.
Sharing with the person you live with
Two phones can share the weekly plan and the shopping list. One creates a household and gets a short code, and the other types it in. After that you see the same thing, ticked-off items included. There are no accounts and no passwords, and it costs nothing.
- On the first phone: settings → household → create a household. A code appears.
- On the second phone: settings → household → join, and type the code.
- From then on you see the same week and the same ticks. If one of you changes something, the other follows.
Worth knowing: the budget, dietary preferences, the store cupboard, points and achievements are not shared, because they are personal. That also means whoever taps »new plan« lays out the week according to their own budget. If you tap »stop sharing«, the phone is disconnected, and the household's data is deleted once the last phone has left.
When something goes wrong
My reminders are not arriving
First check that reminders are switched on in the app's settings, and that Android has been allowed to show notifications from Madmakker. If they still do not arrive, it is almost always the phone's battery saver: find Madmakker under Settings → Apps → Battery, and choose »unrestricted« or »not optimised«. Some phone makers put apps to sleep on their own after a few days.
The prices do not match the shop
The prices in Madmakker are estimates, not today's prices from a particular chain. They are built on average Danish prices, adjusted by the food consumer price index from Statistics Denmark. They are good for keeping a week inside a budget, but they cannot predict the receipt to the krone.
An item is listed in a strange quantity
Then it is a mistake in the app's data, and it is gladly fixed. Write to kontakt@nixio.dk saying which meal and which item it concerns, or use the feedback button in the app. It will be corrected in one of the next releases.
How do I update the app?
Through Google Play like every other app, usually all by itself. Your plan, your list and your settings survive an update.
How do I delete my data?
Everything lives on your own phone, so if you uninstall the app, it is gone. If you are sharing a household, tap »stop sharing« first. The shared data is then deleted once the last phone has left the household. You can also write to privatliv@nixio.dk and ask for a household to be deleted straight away.
Is there a home screen widget?
Yes. Press and hold on the home screen, choose widgets, find Madmakker, and drag it out. It shows today's dinner and updates itself when the plan changes.
Can I use the app in English?
Not yet. The app's interface, its recipes and its shopping list categories are in Danish. An English version is planned. This website is available in English, and the recipes can be read in Danish at madmakker.nixio.dk/opskrifter/ if you want to see what the meals look like before installing anything.
Contact
Write to kontakt@nixio.dk. There is one person at the other end, the same one who wrote the app, and you will get an answer. Danish and English are both fine.
That goes for bugs, wishes, a missing meal, or something that is simply annoying. You can also use the feedback button inside the app. It sends only what you write yourself, plus the app's version and your phone model, so a bug can be tied to the right release.
Questions about data and privacy: privatliv@nixio.dk, and the full policy is at nixio.dk/privatlivspolitik.html, in Danish.
