A vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free meal plan
Madmakker builds the weekly plan around your diet. You choose between everything, vegetarian, vegan and mostly animal-based, and you can switch off gluten, lactose and fish separately. The planner then picks only meals that fit. It is not a filter that hides the day's meal afterwards.
How to set it
Settings → diet. Choose your line, and switch off what you cannot tolerate. The next time you ask for a new plan, the week is built accordingly. You can change it whenever you like, and the days you have locked stay put.
If a single meal still does not suit you, because you cannot stand it or because it contains something the app does not know about, it can be removed permanently with »vis aldrig igen«, meaning »never show again«. It will not come back, not even in three months.
What to expect from the selection
There are 212 recipes in the app, and they are written as Danish everyday food. Set the diet to vegetarian or vegan and the selection gets smaller; there is no way around that. The weekly plan is built so it can still fill all seven days of lunch and dinner without repeating itself endlessly.
Lunches were the hard part. A great deal of Danish lunch is cold cuts on bread, and without the meat there is not much left. Meat-free open sandwiches were therefore written in, precisely so a vegetarian is not left with one meal to choose from all week. That is the kind of thing that keeps being improved. Write in if your selection feels thin.
Important about allergies
The exclusions are an aid to planning, not a guarantee against allergens. Madmakker marks meals from its own recipe data, and that data can contain mistakes. If you have a serious allergy, read the label on what you buy, exactly as you would without an app. If you find a meal that is marked wrongly, write to kontakt@nixio.dk and it will be corrected.
Questions
Can Madmakker make a vegetarian meal plan?
Yes. Set the diet to vegetarian in the settings, and the planner picks only vegetarian meals for both lunch and dinner. There is a vegan setting as well.
Can I switch off gluten or lactose?
Yes, separately. Gluten, lactose and fish can be excluded independently of the diet, and meals containing them are then left out of the plan.
Are the exclusions safe enough for an allergy?
No. They are built on the app's own recipe data and are an aid to planning, not an allergy guarantee. Always read the label on the products you buy.
Can two people in the same household each have their own diet?
Yes. Dietary preferences are not shared between the phones, because they are personal. The weekly plan, on the other hand, is shared, so the plan follows the settings of whoever taps »new plan«.
Are the diet settings in English?
No. The app is in Danish, so the settings are labelled »alt«, »vegetarisk«, »vegansk« and »mest animalsk« — everything, vegetarian, vegan and mostly animal-based — and the exclusions are »gluten«, »laktose« and »fisk«. An English version of the app is planned.
