Danish meal planning apps: what is out there, and what should you choose?
There are six or seven Danish meal planning services to choose between in 2026, and they fall into three kinds: recipe universes with a subscription (Valdemarsro), free tools where you add the meals yourself (Madplan Online, Nem Madplan, madplan.nu), and apps that lay out the plan for you (Madmakker, madplan.ai, Mambeno). If you want to use your own recipes, choose group two. If you want to be spared the deciding, choose group three.
Who wrote this? Nixio, who also made Madmakker, which is on the list. You should know that before reading on, and it is why this page also says when you should choose one of the others. The information about the other apps comes from their own sites and store listings in August 2026. Prices and features change, so check for yourself before deciding.
All of these services are Danish and in Danish. That includes Madmakker. This page is in English so you can compare them before installing anything.
Overview
In short, Madmakker is the only one that is entirely free, exists only for Android and is built around a concern for ADHD. Valdemarsro has the best recipes and costs money. The rest are free or partly free tools where you do more of the work yourself.
| App | Platform | Price | Strong at | Poor fit if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Madmakker | Android | Free, all content | Lays out the whole week for you; shopping list sorted by your shop; no account; works offline | You have an iPhone, or you want to use your own recipes |
| Valdemarsro | iOS, Android, web | Subscription (39 kr/month or 199 kr/year, Aug 2026) | A large, carefully made recipe universe and household sharing | You do not want to pay monthly for a meal plan |
| Nem Madplan | iOS, Android, web | Free to start, paid plus edition | Your own recipes, keeping track of freezer and cupboard, integration with Nemlig | You want the plan made for you without typing meals in |
| Madplan Online | Browser, no app | Free | No download and no account to get started | You want the list in your pocket in a shop with no signal |
| Mambeno | iOS, Android | Free edition | A meal plan built around the week's offers, for the lowest possible cost | You do not shop at the chain the offers come from |
| madplan.ai | Web | Free edition, paid on top | The plan is generated from household and preferences | You want to know exactly where the meals come from |
Prices and editions are as advertised on the services' own sites in August 2026. The paid editions of the other apps have not been tested.
When is Madmakker the right choice?
When the problem is not recipes but decisions. Madmakker lays out the whole week itself, needs no account, costs nothing, and has an »Orker ikke« button — »can't face it« — that also accepts you buying something ready-made. It is built for everyday life with ADHD, where a plan has to survive a bad day.
Concretely, it is a good choice if:
- You have Android and want to be up and running in under a minute without creating anything.
- You do not mind where the meals come from and just want a plan that holds.
- You want the shopping list sorted by your shop's order.
- You share everyday life with somebody who needs to see the same list, without either of you creating accounts.
- You are tired of subscriptions, ads and apps that ask for an email before showing you anything.
- You read Danish, or you are willing to work with a Danish interface while an English version is being made.
When should you choose something other than Madmakker?
Choose something else if you have an iPhone, if you want to use your own recipes, or if the recipes themselves are what you care about. Madmakker exists only for Android, you cannot write your own meals into version 1.2, and the meals are plain Danish everyday food rather than a curated food universe.
- You do not live in Denmark. Every app on this list is built for Danish supermarkets, Danish products and Danish prices, Madmakker included. None of them is meant for use in another country.
- You do not read Danish and do not want to work around it. Every app on this list is Danish, but Madmakker is the one this page is trying to sell you, so it is worth saying plainly: the interface and all 212 recipes are in Danish today.
- You have an iPhone. Then the choice is between Valdemarsro, Nem Madplan, Mambeno or one of the browser-based ones. There is no iOS edition of Madmakker, and no date has been set for one.
- You want to use your own recipes. Choose Nem Madplan or Madplan Online. Madmakker plans only from its own 212 meals.
- You love food and want to be inspired. Then Valdemarsro's subscription is worth the money. It is a recipe universe, where Madmakker is a planning tool.
- You plan around the offer leaflets. Mambeno is built for exactly that. Madmakker works from average prices and does not know this week's offers.
- You want all of it in a browser on a computer. Madmakker is a phone app, while Madplan Online and madplan.ai run in the browser.
The individual apps
Madmakker
A free Android app from the Danish developer Nixio. It lays out the week's lunches and dinners from the household and the budget, gathers the shopping list from the meals and sorts it by your shop. 212 recipes, 96 optional achievements, sharing between two phones through a short code, defrosting reminders, and a widget showing today's dinner. No account, no ads, no in-app purchases, and everything works offline except the sharing. Read more about Madmakker.
Valdemarsro
The food blog Valdemarsro's own service, with apps for both iOS and Android and a web edition. The meal plan is part of a Premium subscription, advertised in August 2026 at 39 kr. a month or 199 kr. a year. You get weekly plans you can rearrange yourself, a shopping list that adds ingredients together and sorts them by category, favourites and household sharing. It is the best option on the list if the recipes themselves are what you are after.
Nem Madplan
A Danish app and web service where you enter your own recipes and build the plan from them. It can keep track of what you have in the freezer and the cupboard, and it integrates with Nemlig so the shopping list can become an order. Free to start; a Nem Madplan+ edition lifts the limits on the number of recipes and lets you invite others into the household. Choose it if you want control and do not mind doing the work yourself.
Madplan Online
Runs in the browser with no download and no account, and is free. You put the week's meals together yourself and get a shopping list out of it. It is simple and quick to try, but it is a web page, so it is less convenient than an app to hold in a shop with poor coverage.
Mambeno
A Danish app that builds the meal plan around the week's offers, based on REMA 1000. If the lowest possible price matters most to you and you shop at that chain, it is hard to beat. If you shop somewhere else, the offers part makes less sense.
madplan.ai
A web service that generates a meal plan and a shopping list from your household and your preferences. Quick to get started with. On the other hand it is harder to know where the meals come from than when the recipes have been written and read through by a human.
madplan.nu
A smaller Danish tool that makes a particular point of gathering the shopping list without duplicates. Worth a look if it is the list itself, and not the planning, that is the problem.
Questions about the choice
What is the best free meal planning app in Denmark?
It depends on what you want to be spared. If you want to be spared the deciding, Madmakker (Android, free, lays out the whole week itself) is the obvious choice. If you want to use your own recipes without paying, Madplan Online or the free edition of Nem Madplan is better. Neither requires a subscription.
Is there a meal planning app for ADHD?
Madmakker is, as far as is known, the only Danish meal planning app built around a concern for ADHD: fewer choices at a time, no streaks that can be lost, an »Orker ikke« button that also accepts ready meals, and no reminders about what you did not get done. The app requires no diagnosis and is not treatment.
Is Madmakker available for iPhone?
No, only for Android 7.0 and later. If you have an iPhone and want something along the same lines, Valdemarsro (paid) or Nem Madplan (free to start) are the closest Danish alternatives.
Can you share the meal plan with your partner?
In Madmakker the weekly plan and the shopping list are shared between two phones through a short code, without accounts, and it is free. Valdemarsro shares within the household as part of the subscription, and Nem Madplan puts household sharing in its plus edition.
Are any of these available in English?
Not as far as is known. All of them are Danish services built around Danish supermarkets, and their interfaces are in Danish. An English version of Madmakker is planned. If you live in Denmark without reading Danish, the browser-based ones can at least be put through a page translator, which a phone app cannot.
Try Madmakker
If you have landed on wanting to be spared the deciding, you can install Madmakker for free. There is no trial period and no account. If you install it and do not like it, it has cost you two minutes.
