Share the shopping list between two phones — without accounts
In Madmakker you share the weekly plan and the shopping list by having one phone create a household and receive a short code. The code can be sent as an invitation link that the other person simply taps, or typed in by hand. After that you see the same week and the same ticks, updated on both phones. There are no accounts, no email addresses and no passwords, and it costs nothing.
How you do it
It takes three steps and under a minute. You both need Madmakker installed, and the phone needs an internet connection while you connect. Afterwards the list works offline again.

Create the household
On the first phone: settings → household → create. A short code appears.

Send the invitation
Tap »Send invitation« below the code, and send the message however you usually write to each other. If they tap the link on their Android phone, Madmakker opens with the code already filled in, and all they do is tap »Tilslut«, meaning »join«.

Shop separately
When one of you ticks off an item in the shop, it disappears from the other's list too.
The code is also written out in plain text in the message. If the link does not work, or you would rather do it by hand, it can be typed under settings → household → join on the second phone. The result is the same.

What is shared, and what is not?
The weekly plan and the shopping list are shared, including ticks and the items you have added yourselves. The budget, dietary preferences, the store cupboard, points and achievements are not shared, because they are personal and stay on each phone.
One consequence is worth knowing: because the budget is personal, whoever taps »new plan« lays out the week according to their budget. If you disagree about the week's food, that is usually what has happened. It is a deliberate boundary, not an oversight.
What actually gets sent?
The weekly plan and the shopping list are placed on Nixio's own server, a Cloudflare Worker with a database in the EU, tied to nothing but the random household code. No name, email address, account, phone number or device ID goes with it. If you tap »stop sharing«, the phone is disconnected, and the household's data is deleted once the last phone has left.
The invitation link itself sends nothing. The code sits after the # in the
address, and that part of an address never reaches any server. It stays on the phone the link
is opened on.
If you do not share, none of this leaves your phone at all. Sharing is off until you create or join a household yourself. The full privacy policy is on nixio.dk, in Danish.
Why not just a shared note or a joint account?
Because a shared note does not know what the week's meals require, and a joint account requires somebody to remember a password. A code that only has to be used once is the smallest thing that can do the job, and there is nothing left to forget afterwards.
It is also why the sharing cannot be used to keep an eye on what the other person is doing. There are no profiles, no activity log and no »last seen«. There is only one list, and you can both change it.
Questions
How many phones can share a household?
The sharing is built for two phones, the typical household with a partner or a flatmate. It is the code from the first phone that lets the second one in.
What is the invitation link, and is it safe to send?
It is an address on madmakker.nixio.dk with the household code after a hash sign. If the recipient taps it from an Android phone with Madmakker installed, the app opens with the code filled in, and they tap »Tilslut« themselves. The app never joins a household on its own. Treat the link like a key: whoever has the code can see and change the household's meal plan and shopping list, so send it only to the person you actually want to share food with. There is nothing personal in the code, and because it sits after the hash sign, it is never sent to any server.
Does sharing cost anything?
No. Household sharing is free like the rest of Madmakker. There is no subscription and no account involved.
Does sharing work offline?
The list itself works offline, but changes are only exchanged once the phone has an internet connection again. In the shop you can tick away without a signal.
How do we stop sharing again?
Tap »stop sharing« in the settings. The phone is disconnected from the household, and the household's data on the server is deleted once the last phone has left it. You can also write to privatliv@nixio.dk and ask for a household to be deleted straight away.
Can you share with an iPhone?
No. Madmakker exists only for Android, so both phones have to be Android phones.
